A year ago we included the Shazam app in our list of top thirty iPhone apps. At that time Shazam had been reviewed by a massive 100K users and managed an impressive 3.5 star rating. Impressive because it is difficult to keep that many users happy - much more likely that differences in interests will spread the ratings and result in lower scores!
We are in the process of putting together a new list of the current top 10 apps and decided to check out how those in last years list were doing, today. Impressively, Shazam has been rated by a further 200K users since our report 12 months ago and has maintained its 3.5 star rating.
So if you are a new iPhone owner (or have just joined the Apple family as an iPad owner), we recommend you download this free app and try it out.
For the benefit of those that are not familiar with the app, it identifies the song that are playing on the radio or (more often) a video:
Just point your iphone towards the music source to identify track
If you are keen, the app makes it so that you can even then buy the MP3 from iTunes. But we think its just a really useful way to ID that tune! And obviously we are not alone!

It seems that there is a current strategy (from iPhone game app developers) is to offer their games for free for a brief period before they then raise the price. We have a list of some of the games that are temporarily on the freebie list - but will be relisted at a higher price shortly (”a few days”). Most going from $0.99 to $1.15 or from $1.99 to $2.99.
So the iPhonegizmo team suggest you grab the games while they are still free! We have seven iPhone and/or iPad games that are currently on the temporary freebie list:
TowerMadness, (right app icon, game for both iPhone and iPad - was $2.99), Mutant Mayhem (game for both iPhone and iPad - was $.99), Crazy Basketball (game for both iPhone and iPad - was $.99), Kyle’s Quest 2 (game for both iPhone and iPad - $.99), Demon Hunter (left app icon, game for both iPhone and iPad- was $.99),
Mind Shapes (was $1.99) and Insanity X (was $.99) are both games developed solely to play on iPad.

We recently did a post revealing the huge range of free iPhone downloads that can now be downloaded to Ipad! Heaps of music (thousands), plus movies and TV shows. Check the post to find out all about it.
What’s more, 1477 Free Apps have been released for the iPad. This is across all genres with EzTweet Plus Friends being one of the first (released April 1st) and the Flickr Wallpaper app being one of the latest apps released for both iPad and iPhone .

There are already free iPad wallpaper apps in iTunes. In fact Photobucket had an App released on 1st April. But, despite beating Cool Wallpapers for iPad by a day, they have not been as popular with only 270 reviews (with average 3 star rating) compared to 2328 reviews (also with average 3 star rating) for Cool wallpapers. It has also been pipped at the post by backgrounds HD which was released two weeks later but has had 1122 reviews (again 3 stars).
The fact that both these are the most popular wallpaper apps for iPhone has probably helped their acceptance with iPad owners.
Still, we suggest that both iPhone and iPad users can do better! There are some pretty exciting wallpapers on offer on other apps and outside iTunes. We suspect that these two apps have been so popular (the iPhone version of backgrounds HD has had over 179K reviews - with a whopping 3.5 star rating) because of the variety of wallpapers they offer. Single purpose wallpaper apps (eg, car wallpapers) have done poorly! Also, “do it yourself” wallpapers have not gone over well. It looks as if browse-select -click is what iPhone users, at least, are wanting.
So the release, yesterday, of the first Flickr wallpaper app (free, of course) for both iPhone and iPad may not get the attention it really deserves. This app allows us (iPhone and iPad users) to choose free wallpapers from some of the most stunning images from around the planet. How cool is this?
Of course, there are some web-based wallpaper sites that are also providing some stunning wallpapers for our iPhone and iPads. These are now often ignored as sources of wallpapers because of the simple browse-select -click action that apps allow us. But they do chew up less battery juice and give us extra options so are worth a look. Check this out:
Stretch yourselves folks - there are plenty of exciting images just waiting to be discovered and enjoyed!

It was bound to happen. Although iTunes is a great resource there are also limitations that can be very frustrating. So it was inevitable that alternatives would be developed.
CopyTrans is one such system. With a slick site and free-to-download software, CopyTrans is offering an inviting alternative to iTunes for us to try.
CopyTrans is not a new system - so its not a case of trialing a beta development. They are a well established alternative to iTunes and are well worth trialing. Check out the following video for an overview of what this free software can do:
