Free TWiT Network Live Streaming TV Show On Our iPhones

August 26th, 2010 by admin

Its random, unplanned and amateurish - but strangely compelling. The show is called this WEEK in TECH, or TWiT. It has several radio-presenter-types all gathered together (in person or via Skype) that chat about the week’s tech news and other related gossip on live streaming TV. Take a look at one of today’s shows and to see whether you want to get the free App:

Watch live video from TWiT Live on Justin.tv

The free app is called JustinTV Now there are some game-based channels also available to watch via this app - but they are very targeted in the audience they appeal to - so not much use to most of us!But the TWIT Network is gold! Go get it!The team here predicts that JustinTV will get BIG. This is just the start and it is so far relatively undiscovered by those that love to entertain.

Five More Free Top iPhone Music Downloads

August 22nd, 2010 by admin

Some great free music from some of the best musos in the business:

1) http://cache.umusic.com/web_assets/scarsonbroadway/extras/avatar2.jpgThe first one is a free single from Scars on Broadway – the experimental rock group founded by the former System Of A Down lead guitaris, Daron Malakian and former drummer John Dolmayan.  This MP3 is provided free in the strategy of promotion used by quite a few musicians now: twitter to unlock the free song! Just visit the armageddoncomealive.com site, click share and then click “facebook” or “twitter” and the song is yours!

2) In a completely different genre is this free iPhone download from The Drums: Down By The Water. Its a slow romantic track for and a complete shocker against the first song in our list. But that’s what makes this list so great - variety, talent and good times!

3) Our third free iPhone download track is our first girl artist: Colleen Green singing (of course) Worship You - listen to it below and get the free download here. Its good, solid “girls in the garage” style music!

4) More grungy and - if you agree that music with more grit is the good stuff - worth getting, is this free MP3 from The Black Angels: Telephone. You can listen to the song below and download it here (have to give your email address to get the free MP3). There is a definite 60’s flavor to this track!

5) And for a dose of angry rock, check out the latest free MP3 from All That Remains:

You can get the free MP3 here also in exchange for your email address.

Don’t forget to share this great list of free music with your friends (click share below)

Free iPhone Music Downloads - Bonanza!

August 19th, 2010 by admin

There is a real Bonanza of free MP3’s on offer round the net at present as new albums are due for release.  These are free to download to our iPhones. They are top ranked songs and some of them are  provided below - with more to come in our next post:

1) Can a band that has been around as long as The Melvins have anything new to offer their fans? According to the enthusiastic review given by Drew Tewksbury in the LA Weekly, their latest album:

The Bride Screamed Murder has been filtered through pulsating electro, uptempo dance jams, and bowel shaking dubstep, taking the Melvins into uncharted territory.

Free MP3 of “Electronic Flower” shows just how cool their music still is.

2) Broken Records return has a new album about to be released and is giving away their first track - ‘A Leaving Song’  - as a free mp3.  Don’t you just love the way music is sold these days? Free tasters to fill our iPhones iPod with!

3) Here is  Black Country Communion performing their hit single “One Last Soul” - the link to the free download for the single can be found below the video.

4) Track taken from Black Country Communion Album: “One Last Soul” Digital Download

Download a free MP3 of the single, The Hustle, here

5) Colleen Green is also offering a free MP3 - “Worship You” - you can listen before you download, of course, but this is hot hot music!

Follow up on the CNN App on iPhone

August 1st, 2010 by admin

Its early days still but the iPhonegizmo team decided to follow the new free CNN app for iPhone and watch how the process of adoption took place. Why the CNN App? Well, its an internationally known news provider and likely, we thought,  to get quickly adopted. So what has happened so far (day 10 of release)?

CNN App for UK

In the UK there are 27 reviews and 18 of those (66%) give the app a 4+ star rating. Main complaint is that ads appear in the middle of news reports rather than at the beginning.

In France there have been only 8 reviews and whilst most of these are favorable the most telling comment is: “A moins de parler anglais I appli n a aucun interet”. The app is in English and so has limited use for those who don’t speak it!

CNN App for Australia

In Australia the complaints about the app surprisingly similar to the French! Because the news content is almost totally devoid of local content. The interest in the CNN App is there. There have been three times as many reviews as have been made by UK users. By contrast, a bigger percentage are negative. In fact of the 74 reviews, 40% give it a 2 star or less rating and only 40% give it a 4+ star rating. Significantly less than the UK reviews. And comments reflect displeasure with the total lack of Australian news.

It will be interesting to see whether CNN are interested in “internationalizing” their App. That is, making versions for countries that include local news and also is available in the national language! Remember though,  it IS free. Our guess is that CNN have made an App available to international fans who already use their service, speak English and want to keep in touch with news the CNN reports it!

PS: As a matter of interest, China has only 13 ratings with 7  (54%) giving it a 4+ star rating.  So far Australia has shown the most interest in the App. But not the most pleasure!

35 Free Comic Books For iPhone Download!

July 24th, 2010 by admin

To celebrate the Comic Con event, the iPhonegizmo team went looking for free comic downloads for iPhones. We revisited a previous post about free comics for iPhone download and got a great lead for 35 more free comics - some as big as 35 pages!

These freebies are available from  Comixology - a site that has specialized in providing comics for delivery on our iphones. Some of the comics that are included on the 35-for-freebie list are: Superman, Batman Black and White, Wanted, and Box 13 plus another 31 free comics are up for grabs.

There are several Free iPhone apps for Marvel, DC Comics,  and quite a few others. Marvel offer a half dozen free comics but  have not really put much effort into optimizing them for the iPhone platform. At least the one we downloaded (Ultimate Ironman II) whilst beautifully illustrated was not easy to read on the iPhone, with repeated - slow loading - need for us to switch from the vertical to the horizontal screen and no apparent effort to make the words legible!

In complete contrast, the free DC Comic downloads were excellent. There were more than a dozen and they were very easy to read on the iPhone.

So guys - if you are a comic fan - go check out the free comic apps and grab yourself some free comic downloads.

Nothing To Do With iPhone Downloads

July 19th, 2010 by admin

All the same, we just have to comment on the advertising revolution that is currently taking place on YouTube. The first video ad in this revolutionary series was posted to YouTube back in February and has since had 0ver 14 million views! Another was posted just two weeks ago and has already had over 8 million views.

In the last week, however, a whole new genre of YouTube ads have been generated. Old Spice have posted over 200 YouTube videos in the past week! Each video ‘ad’ is a response to a twitter post. And following one may be the most brilliant ad ever made:

We posted the Susan Boyle YouTube video when it had had just 3 million views (in 3 days) - it has since had over 44 million views).  Don’t be surprised if the old Spice ads have the same kind of end result! You can find more to watch on the Old Spice YouTube channel.

OK - so this post is not about iPhone downloads - but you CAN enjoy these YouTube Videos - for free -  on your iPhone. So stop complaining!
