What does LOVE and “special iPhone Apps” have in common?

October 25th, 2010 by admin

Well, Frank and Kasey, you have got our attention, so don’t keep us in suspense!

Clearly this cute little video has been staged (well that’s the iPhonegizmo team consensus, but the more romantic are still arguing its legit!) But what we want to know is:

“Is the mention at the start and finish of special iPhone apps a telling inclusion?”

Is this a PR stunt aimed at promoting a new iPhone app? Take a look and see what we mean:

What do you think? Staged or real romance in action? And if its staged, is there enough drama to capture attention and push it viral? And what the heck type of iPhone app are they gonna launch?

We’ll keep you updated (yeah, we are obviously suckers for this kind of thing)

Free iPhone Apps For Love

October 12th, 2010 by admin

Love Messenger - Send Romantic Messages via MMS Text Messages and Email

Of course there have been a huge number of iPhone apps developed to help us with dating /love / sex. In fact if you type “sex” into iTunes search and and select for “free apps”, you will get over 400 apps delivered, 360 for “dating” and some 1100 free apps about “love” (but that includes apps like “I Love India” and “divorce Jokes” !!)

We have chosen 6 free apps around the love and romance theme to give you an idea of what can be found in this genre of Apps:

1) Before the love and romance,  we first have to meet Mr or Miss right!  So we begin this list of apps with Flirt Maps, which lets us know who is nearby, compatible and wanting to flirt right now! With FlirtMaps you can actually find them on the map, see their profiles and even arrange a date (hmmm - this all seems pretty risky!) Well, virtual flirt might be OK. And then use the next app before going any further!!

2) iHeart Love Compatibility Obviously, before romance can go anywhere there needs to be compatibility! Based on numerology, astrology and the Chinese zodiac, this app provides us with guidance from the “stars” about our compatibility with another. You will need name, birth date and zodiac sign in order to get a compatibility score out of ten!

So now you have met Mr/Miss Right. Now what? Well there are a whole stack of apps to help make the romancing just that much easier:

Yoga For Sex

3) love Messenger, for example, which offers us thousands of romantic messages, clip art, emoticons and even videos to send to our sweetheart. Or perhaps you have trouble figuring out what do on your next date? That’s where the next app -

4) Date Movie Advise can help you to plan your next perfect movie date! Or, if you are the wine-and-dine types, then -

5) Sexified Foods could be just what you need. This app provides a long list of romance-enhancing foods!

And finally, for those that want to take the romance to the next level, here is an app that provides you with the work outs you need to allow you go to go that extra distance!!

6) Yoga for sex - this app is quite cool - it goes through various yoga poses and explains how they will help your love life. For example, the basic Cobra pose - opens the “heart chakra - where love energy and breath come from…”

And if your love life is improved by these apps - do let us know so others can benefit.

NB - you must be over 17 to download most of these apps.

Free iPhone App To Keep Your Man Brand Premium?

October 9th, 2010 by admin

The Hahn  Beer ads are among the best ads to have been produced in 2010, with the memorable punch line:

Every call you make effects your man brand…
Stay premium gentlemen!

The team was reminded of the ad when we came across this free app released earlier this year called Manliness. It is an app put out so that followers of the website: Art of Manliness can keep up to date on the latest info on reviving the lost art of manliness.

Its actually a pretty interesting site. And whilst the reviews are not massive in number there are enough to suggest the app has been well received. Check it out!

3D hologram app for iphone

October 1st, 2010 by admin

The iphonegizmo team want to let you all in on this new iPhone app that uses the inbuilt camera to generate hologram images. Given the latest craze for anything 3D, we reckon its sure to be a big winner and expect to see it in the top 100 most popular apps soon after it is released.  The app generates a holgraphic image that is then projected to sit above the iphone screen - as you can see in the following pic:

iPhone hologram app

To really appreciate this new app check out the video that shows just how its done:

OK - now the real question is: who is the bald guy? Because, of course, this is all a hoax (sadly as it can’t be done - and anyway there is no iPhone 5 - yet!)

Well, that question is harder to answer than you would think - but its not his first joke-hoax video for an iPhone app. And the last one received 1.8 million views (and is pretty funny).  After a bit of research we discovered that the bald guy is apparently Michael Krivicka (of course it is) and he creates viral social media - and does it very well from what we have seen. And - as simple consumers of fun stuff - we are all now fans. Keep up the good work Michael!

THIS is the way to launch an new iPhone App!

September 25th, 2010 by admin

iPhonegizmo gets promo emails from a LOT of app developers. Most of them are hoping to get a hot write up for their app. We have a standard policy which basically means that we want the app developer to give you - the reader - a free trial or a free app or the chance to win a free app.

As part of the SDK requirements each app developer has to make 50 apps available for free. So we know these are available. Most of these get used up in the trial  phase of app development. However, it is our experience that app developers are smart with technology  but not smart with marketing (they should really pay attentuion to how Apple does things!!) So, in their innocence, they are reluctant to give away any apps becuse they fear that that is much needed revenue being lost.

But you know - as we know - that freebies are a necessary part of getting wide acceptance and good revierws etc. Even better if the app is launched with a video. Even better if there is some other motivator - like a competition, for example.

Which is why we are doing this post on the relatively uninspiring app called the Ruler.
.
Its a smple, unglamorous but very useful app. We are even doing this post despite the fact that the app has a price tag (temporarily 99c). And that is because they have done such a great launch promo for the app. First up - they have a great contest with fantastic prizes:

   • Grand prize: The brand-new 64 GB iPod touch with FaceTime, Retina display, HD video recording, and Game Center.
   • 2nd: The 16 GB iPod nano redesigned with Multi-Touch.
   • 3rd: The smaller, streamlined Apple TV.
   • 4th: The new iPod shuffle.

The details of this easy to enter competition are on the Ruler site.

Secondly, they are launching the app at half its normal price of $1.99.

And finally, they have a very neat demo  on their site. Go check it out!

Oh… and BTW, these are the developers that paved the way for Apple’s ibooks. So they know how to create great apps.

Free Backup for iPhone files

September 16th, 2010 by admin

There are quite a few iPhone Apps that are connected to online storage, backup and file sharing services. For those iPhone users that already use a service, it is worth checking the App store to see whether your service provides an iPhone app that allows you connectivity via your iPhone to their service (eg Carbonite, Norton, Diino)

Dropbox

Two other companies offer a free 1 to 2 GB storage service with iPhone access. So we figure they deserve a special mention. For those with only a limited need or interest in backing up their data (photos, music etc) then these are super good deals. Also it gives us the opportunity to try out these backup and file sharing systems (most people are not that familiar with the cloud technology that they are based on) and see if we like them.

1) DropBox (4 star iTunes rating - so goes first), allows users to sync data, share folders, collaborate folders, share links, and (most important) add photos to the gallery. Using the iPhone App we can access and view files as well as images in the Dropbox.

.

The good news is that Dropbox offers a 2GB free service!

FilesAnywhere

2) FilesAnywhere app (2.5 star rating) allows us to view, share and manage our “remote” files  from our iPhone. We can also share these “remote” files with anyone. The sharing is done without the need for  downloading - that’s the benefit of the cloud technology! It also allows us to upload photos. There is a free 1GB service available as well.

One final backup/file sharing  service deserves a mention. Because of the HUGE free service it offers. ADrive has a whopping 50MB free option! Now, whilst the free service does not come with all the nice features that the paid service offers, this is still a fantastic offer. Sadly, they so far do not have iPhone access!

Five Star iPhone Movie For 99¢!

August 4th, 2010 by admin

This recently released movie is called The Weathered Underground. Its USP is that it’s an interactive film - well,  actually, its an App that allows us to decide how the movie ends (so its gotta be a five star film, right!). The App  is currently on offer for the next week at 99¢ instead of the usual $3.99. It is billed as having hundreds of choices with dozens of endings.

The App was released about a month ago and has rave reviews (all are 5 star ratings - maybe a little help from friends?).

Take a look
