iTune Ping

September 11th, 2010 by admin

iTunes Ping

With the latest update to iTunes (iTunes 10) comes Apple Ping its (long overdue?) social network for music.  And, for a change, this time Apple is playing catchup (with Zune, for example, who has had a social network for music since day one)! Given the success of MySpace and the blow out popularity for a whole rash of music-based social network sites, it is surprising really that it has taken Apple so long to jump on this bandwagon. They are usually the innovators not the followers!

The nice thing about the new network is that it is accessible from our iPhones.  Tap the iTunes icon, sign in to iTunes  and go to Ping where there are three buttons to tap that take us to: ‘Activity’, ‘People’, and ‘My Profile’ views. We are also able to “Like” and “Comment” on posts. Not sure we can edit our profile picture or our details from the iPhone - we could not do it.

The most astonishing thing about Ping, however - at least to the iPhonegizmo team - is the fact that iTunes has links that send us to OTHER sites!!. Take for example the Taylor Swift profile:

iTunes Ping - Taylor swift

On the profile page there is - on the right hand side bar - a “concerts” sub-category. And inside that there is “tickets” and THAT is a link that sends us to the Ticketmaster website!! No doubt Apple has done a deal - but still, this is the first time that Apple has been prepared to share their audience with anyone (well, that is overstating things as music and apps all have links to websites - but this link is not on a “sale” page)! Or did they but Ticketmaster while we were all asleep?

Given that Taylor Swift already has more than 130K followers and that Ping has been available for only a matter of days, we are not sticking our necks out by saying we suspect that Ping is gonna be a financial bonanza for Apple (Katy Perry and Lady GaGa have even more followers!). Especially when you consider how good the interface on iTunes looks.

You need to update iTunes and the software on your iPhone. Just go to Apple to get iTunes 10 .

BTW - Ping will also be available for  iPad  users - but they will have to wait till November for their update!

Five More Free Top iPhone Music Downloads

August 22nd, 2010 by admin

Some great free music from some of the best musos in the business:

1) http://cache.umusic.com/web_assets/scarsonbroadway/extras/avatar2.jpgThe first one is a free single from Scars on Broadway – the experimental rock group founded by the former System Of A Down lead guitaris, Daron Malakian and former drummer John Dolmayan.  This MP3 is provided free in the strategy of promotion used by quite a few musicians now: twitter to unlock the free song! Just visit the armageddoncomealive.com site, click share and then click “facebook” or “twitter” and the song is yours!

2) In a completely different genre is this free iPhone download from The Drums: Down By The Water. Its a slow romantic track for and a complete shocker against the first song in our list. But that’s what makes this list so great - variety, talent and good times!

3) Our third free iPhone download track is our first girl artist: Colleen Green singing (of course) Worship You - listen to it below and get the free download here. Its good, solid “girls in the garage” style music!

4) More grungy and - if you agree that music with more grit is the good stuff - worth getting, is this free MP3 from The Black Angels: Telephone. You can listen to the song below and download it here (have to give your email address to get the free MP3). There is a definite 60’s flavor to this track!

5) And for a dose of angry rock, check out the latest free MP3 from All That Remains:

You can get the free MP3 here also in exchange for your email address.

Don’t forget to share this great list of free music with your friends (click share below)

Free iPhone Music Downloads - Bonanza!

August 19th, 2010 by admin

There is a real Bonanza of free MP3’s on offer round the net at present as new albums are due for release.  These are free to download to our iPhones. They are top ranked songs and some of them are  provided below - with more to come in our next post:

1) Can a band that has been around as long as The Melvins have anything new to offer their fans? According to the enthusiastic review given by Drew Tewksbury in the LA Weekly, their latest album:

The Bride Screamed Murder has been filtered through pulsating electro, uptempo dance jams, and bowel shaking dubstep, taking the Melvins into uncharted territory.

Free MP3 of “Electronic Flower” shows just how cool their music still is.

2) Broken Records return has a new album about to be released and is giving away their first track - ‘A Leaving Song’  - as a free mp3.  Don’t you just love the way music is sold these days? Free tasters to fill our iPhones iPod with!

3) Here is  Black Country Communion performing their hit single “One Last Soul” - the link to the free download for the single can be found below the video.

4) Track taken from Black Country Communion Album: “One Last Soul” Digital Download

Download a free MP3 of the single, The Hustle, here

5) Colleen Green is also offering a free MP3 - “Worship You” - you can listen before you download, of course, but this is hot hot music!

New Facebook App Allows Free Music Share With Friends On iPhone

July 1st, 2010 by admin

AudioBoo

The new favorite toy for the iPhonegizmo team - as you may have gathered from our last post - is the great site, AudioBoo! This free, easy-to-use site allows us to upload music files and then with a simple click, we can post the music file to our facebook page.

Then, because of the new facebook app, we can listen to the music on our iPhone. Which all means that we can share some great music very easily - whether the music is our own creation/ production - or if it is music we can share because it has been released under common license (audioboo do not allow copyright violations).

All that you need to do to take advantage of this easy music sharing system is shown in the following two steps:

1) Upload your music file to audioboo (you will have to sign up as a member - but that’s OK as its free)

We show you how easy this is in the pics that follow. In our example we have downloaded some Hip Hop music we liked (provided on creative commons License) from Cush Caines. The song is called Come Over, and is available on Soundclick.

Free iPhone Music To Share

.

You can listen to it below (as Audioboo also allows us share music here)

Listen!

.

Then we uploaded the file to Audioboo:

.

and then sent it to Facebook:

About four clicks and we were done - its that easy! Great free music now on our Facebook page for all our friends to enjoy!

2) Download the latest Facebook App - you won’t be able to listen to the music on your iPhone without it! We reckon that this makes the new Facebook App awesome -so ignore our comments from the previous post!

More Free iPhone Music -

April 25th, 2010 by admin

Track artwork

Over the last year we have found a lot of super cool free music from sites around the web - and our latest offering is just as great - with thousands of songs and musicals on offer for free.

Johnny Flynn’s music (pic)  is just the first in the very long list of free music that we have dug up for you.

All this free music can be found at SoundCloud - a site that offers musicians a way to get their music ‘out there’. And if you know how to look, you can find all the music that is available for free there!!

Follow our link to this bonanza of music.

NB: If you want to limit the selection to a genre then just type that genre in before the  search term you will see in the google bar. For example, if you like rock, then type in “rock” before the word “site” (leave a space) and the search results will focus on the free rock music on offer.
